In the spirit of Halloween and waking things from the dead, our recipe this week is the invigorating Corpse Reviver no. 2. A drink that is cold, tart, and stimulating. The ultimate cocktail to revive your senses.
Harry Craddock, author of the Savoy Cocktail Book (published in 1930), was known as "the dean of cocktail shakers." A famous bartender at the Savoy in the U.K., his recipe book has 750 cocktail combinations that cocktail connoisseurs have enjoyed for over 90 years. Craddock created some beloved recipes, like the White Lady and the Corpse Reviver #2.
The Corpse Reviver no. 2 cocktail became popular in the pre-Prohibition era and served as a revival cocktail to rouse a drinker from a hangover or jump-start a morning. This cocktail recipe involves gin and absinthe a complex combination full of citrus notes that is slightly mysterious.
A drink that can revive and add refreshment to the day is a great invitation to this fall season. Here in Northern California I'm bundled up in a warm hoodie as October brings in shorter days. The delicious Corpse Reviver no. 2 is my cocktail of choice for Halloween celebrations.

How to Make a Corpse Reviver no. 2 Cocktail
Bar Tools Need to Make this Recipe
We like to keep things simple when making a cocktail. For this recipe, you'll need a cocktail shaker, a jigger, and your favorite cocktail glass. And don't forget to grab a bottle of my Absinthe Superieure to make this cocktail recipe extra reviving.
Corpse Reviver no. 2 Recipe
.25 oz Absinthia Absinthe Superieure
.75 oz Plymouth Gin
.75 oz Cointreau
.75 oz Lillet Blanc
.75 oz Lemon juice
- Rinse a chilled coupe or cocktail glass with absinthe discard the excess and set the glass aside (I like to save the excess in a small glass as a louche to drink later!)
- Add the remaining ingredients to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake and strain into the prepared glass.
- Garnish with a twist of lemon.
- Sip and allow the combination of gin and absinthe to revive your senses
